can't navigate menu app with arrows after search

if i enter search box and start typing i should be able to arrow through the multiple app choices. currently the arrows do not respond.

the xfce panel behaves does let me arrow through the apps.

Here is the behavior i see after after applying #358 1. activate menu. i can use arrows immediately to navigate 2. start typing to search.  first key press focuses the search bar, but then i have to type the first character again to start the search. 3. once menu apps are filtered down to a few i can't use arrows to navigate immediately.  i have to arrow up once to get the apps in focus then i can navigate with the arrows. this is better than before but probably not ideal.
