Connecting via MCP using GitHub Copilot in VS Code

The MCP server configuration "webtrees-mcp-server" is installed in GitHub Copilot in VS Code as shown in the READme. But there is no connection to my webtrees MCP server.

The GitHub Copilot opens a browser window showing my webtrees site (starting page of a tree).

When I open "https://ahnen.hartenthaler.eu/mcp" in the browser, that page is not available (401).

Sorry for the long delay in the answer.

It is difficult to say from remote what happens in detail. Some thoughts:

• 401 errors mean that no authorization header with a bearer token is received by the server
• Did you set the authorization key as an "Umgebungsvariable"? And relaunched VS code? Or sometimes relaunched Windows?
• For testing, you can put the authorization key directly in the mcp.json file in VS Code:
  "Authorization": "Bearer <AUTHORIZATION_KEY>" (<AUTHORIZATION_KEY> from control panel)
